
Sant Jordi is the boss of several nations and territories, among which there is England, Aragó, Catalonia, Geòrgia, Ethiopia, Bulgaria and Portugal.
According to the Costumer Catalan de Joan Amades, the fact that Sant Jordi is the boss of the knights is due to the help that gave the king Pere I the saint in year 1094. The mentioned king won a battle against the Saracens after this invoked the saint. To thank him, the king nominated him not only boss of the cavalry but also of the Catalan nobility.
In Catalonia, the party became generalized at half of the 15th century and its patronage of Catalonia is already mentioned at the beginning of the 19th century.
The legend Sant Jordi was a roman soldier born in Capadòcia and it is the big protagonist of a great knight explairs that stands in Libya, but that the Catalan tradition believes happened to the population of Montblanc (Tarragona). They say that a ferocious and terrible monster, which possessed the faculties of walking, flying and swimming, razed the surrounzinss of Montblanc, and it had the smelly breath, to such an extent that the extent that from very far away with their breaths poisoned the air, and it produced the death of all who breathed it. So, the deepest terror reigned. The inhabitants thought of giving him every day a person who would serve as dam to him. However... and then a day, the luck wanted the daughter of the king to be the destined one. The princess was young, pretty, fine... citizens offered to substitutieng her, but the king was severe and inexorable, and with the full choir in mourning, he said that she had to be sacrificed. The maiden came out of the city and her alone headed towards the lake where the beast resided , while all the neighbourhood, discomforted and grieved, looked from the wall how she was lead to the sacrifice.
But it was the case that, a young knight, ridden in a white horse, and with an all golden and shiny armor, appeared. The maiden, worried, told him to run away in a fast way, since there was a monster that would eat them. The knight said it that he, since he had come expressly to fight against the beast and like this to free the princess, as well as in the town of Montblancfrom the sacrifice. The beast, came out at once with great horror of the maiden and with great pleasure of the knight. He, with a good knock of lance wounded it badly. The knight, who was Sant Jordi, tied the monster by the neck and gave it to the maiden so that she her self brought it to the city, and the beast was all tame and threatened. The legend explains, that the neighbours of Montblanc had seen all that explairs from the wall and that he received with the arms open to the maiden and the knight. In the oldest hasn't ofraid of the town, the neighbours had just killed off that ferocious animal.
It is said that the king wanted to marry its daughter with Sant Jordi, but that this retorted itself while suggesting that it did not deserve it and that its visit in that town was because it had had a divine revelation about theurgent of need saving that town of the monster. It recommended to the king and to its vassals that they were good Christian and that they honoured and that worshiped God as it deserved. It disappeared mysteriously as he had come.
